Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

Written by Smashing Magazine

Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months.

And to make them a little bit more distinctive from the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you need to look up some date, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?

Hacked site? Stop worrying and start working.

Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

If you are worried about the consequences of having your site hacked here are some useful info that should put your mind at ease, knowing that you know what to do in case it happens.

  • Google will delete you from their index but they will restore your URL in their index as soon as they confirm that your site is clean.
  • Google will contact you to inform that your site has been removed from the index and will also give you the reason for removal (i.e. the fact that you’ve been hacked and they don’t want your site to appear in Google’s SERPs till it’s cleaned up).
  • They’ll be nice about it. There’s no doubt about it Matt Cutts is really nice even to poor stressed out webmasters/website owners with hacked sites.

If being removed from the list worries you too much remember to focus on the positive part. Since Google will be contacting you, you can do something about it IMMEDIATELY. Note too that removal from the index is just a temporary thing so don’t sweat it. As Matt Cutts pointed out in his reply to Ryan Stewart, at least your prospective customers (users who click on the link from SERPs) won’t be turned off when they appear on a hacked page. Temporary removal would result in immediate loss/decrease of traffic but being retained in SERPs may result in long term loss of customers since word of your “insecure or low quality site” might get out. Remember SEO is not just about ranking well in SERPs but is also about reputation building so look at the bright side, stop worrying, and work on your site’s security. If you’ve been hacked then clean up your site at once…even before Google detects the problem and you receive notification that your site has been removed from the index.

Things You Can Learn About Women from Sex And The City

Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

Written by Whaledawg

Do you hear that? A vortex of suck that hungers for your soul. It can only be one thing, the new Sex and The City movie is coming and your girlfriend is already making plans for the two of you to go in spite of your pleas that you don’t like it, don’t want to see it and want to keep your last shred of dignity. But let’s not be so close-minded about the whole thing.

Of course, it’s going to be a terrible movie; it’s based on the awful TV show. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get anything from the experience. Look at it like this: this show is beloved by millions of women. It appeals to their basest nature in a way even they don’t understand. If you’ve ever watched a group of drunk, 20-something year old women falling down in the street screaming at each other ‘no, I’m the Carrie,’ you know what I’m talking about.

GPS Loc as Meta Data for Photos

Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

Why isn’t GPS Latitude and Longitude saved into the meta data of a digital picture when it is taken? Wouldn’t’ a compass and level also give great meta data? (facing 20 degrees from north at a 1 percent incline).

Throw in a 1-button-push publishing and you could create the most amazing maps mashup on the Net with a logical extension to video (same idea - encode per frame or minute) to create a virtual reality that’s based on reality.

First WordCamp UK in the Works

Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

If you haven’t heard of WordCamp yet and call yourself a Wordpress enthusiast then you’ll be happy to hear that it does exist. WordCamp is simply a group of Wordpress bloggers, designers, and developers that have come together to share their enthusiasm for Wordpress. Of course WordCamp is also supposed to be a sharing of ideas revolving around Wordpress but because of the mix of people you’ll find that though Wordpress is the main topic all kinds of ideas and experiences will be shared - from open source stuff to online politics.

The exciting thing about WordCamp UK is this year’s event will be the first held in UK. WordCamp UK is set to happen on July 19-20 in Birmingham. If you wish to attend though I couldn’t give more details since everything is still being worked out.

How to Choose the Right SEO Vendor

Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

Posted by randfish

It's been a while since I saw a post that I felt really did this topic justice, and, to be honest, I've worked on this one on and off for a couple months now (which means, of course, that I had to rewrite largely from scratch to keep the flow positive). Rather than go into great detail or get mired in specifics, I thought it would be valuable to simply explore the process of determining what kind of SEO vendor you need and how to choose them. Here's what I'd suggest:

  1. Start with Your Goals

Turning A Fail Into A Win: Twitter Gets PR Right

Posted under SEO Tools, SEO Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Search Marketing, Search News, search engine news

Posted by Jane Copland

Using Twitter over the past week or so has been a very frustrating experience. The site takes a long time to load, its features either intermittently or permanently don't work, updates get lost and, due to the site's miserable uptime, its third party applications don't work either. For a time, every second person's update complained about Twitter's uptime (or lack thereof) and some suggested a mutiny.

I am not condoning the fact that an internationally popular site has been operating at half-speed for an extended period. That said. we've had problems with speed and uptime in the past and our developers always work incredibly hard to fix our problems as quickly as possible. However, what has arisen from Twitter's problems is an excellent case-study in good public relations.
