search engine news However much we might emphasise the importance of SEO the truth is that people are right when they say that content is still king. Nowadays, with the advent of blogs, website content has become easier and easier to generate resulting in more and more pages out there about every conceivable topic on earth. It is true that though emphasis is still placed in content this makes it even harder to come up with content that will stand out above (or at list distinctly) from the others. This is a problem because as we all know for a website to be truly successful in its niche it has to have content that will make visitors keep on coming back and even refer the page, whether via links or spoken word, to others. Without great content no amount of SEO will seal you and your website’s reputation.
The funny thing is that right now the general tack people take in order to get their websites to have the content they want is usually by adding a blog to their site. Now there is nothing wrong with blogs. If there were I wouldn’t be writing this blog entry. ^_^ In fact blogs are great especially if you simply want to share your hobby or passion. Blogs are also very good for generating fresh content on a more regular basis. It would be sheer folly to change your homepage’s content daily (unless your website is a news aggregator or is based on some dynamic concept) because it is important for your visitors (especially if you have an online business) to become familiarised with your website in order to help them locate the information they need fast each time they visit the site. Blogs are a good solution for giving your visitors fresher and more updated content. However, you shouldn’t rely on the blog to set your site apart from others in your field. Ok so there are some people out there who are so good that their blogs have become meccas for people in their own field. In search we have Matt Cutts, randfish, William Slawski, etc. But the point is that not everyone churn out as many excellent posts as frequently as they could.

I had an occasion calling for bacon themed food and my mind immediately turned towards the famed bacon mat. I needed something a little more single-serving though, so I decided to attempt bacon cups. In the bacon mat instructions there is mention of draping the mat over an overturned metal bowl and cooking it so that it would turn out in as a bowl shape. I decided to try using the backs of various muffin and mini cake pans, I ran out of bacon before I got to try as many as I would have liked so I’ll have to try more at a later date. Any excuse for more bacon.
I set the oven at 400 degrees and carefully formed foil over the back of the muffin pan. I did not coat with cooking spray, it would have been easier to remove but I suspect that the bacon would not have held the form as well if the foil was oiled and would have popped apart half way through cooking. On the other hand some bacon did break when I was peeling away the foil. I cooked the bacon, moving the pans around, until it was crisp looking and waited for it to cool before removing the foil and shaped bacon.

Man-oh-man, it's been a busy week, folks. As many of you know, a big chunk of the Mozplex relocated to Santa Clara this week for SMX West. The show went off smashingly and we managed to get several guests to do Whiteboard videos with us on the Expo Hall floor.
What's this mean for you? It means next week will be filled with Whiteboard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and (of course) Friday! Today though, we have an interview with Google's own Spaminator,
Matt Cutts. Matt was kind enough to sit down with Rand and reveal a bit more about the man behind the madness that is the Google Spam Team.

search engine news I travel a ton. In fact, I live outside the US. When I search from my firefox Google Search box (or from Google.com), I get the results specific to the country I’m in.
That sucks so much balls it’s almost a reason to switch to Yahoo or Live.
After i search normally, i have to re-search by going up and typing google.ca (US lite) or google.co.uk (US Classic) and search there to not get the retarded Google Brazil (or Google Poland, or whatever fucking country i’m in at the time) search results.

Two days ago our office updated our phone system to a more professional business setup. The new system brought additional phone extensions and 23 new phone numbers. While it was a bit of a headache having our phones and internet down while the phone company upgraded our account, it was nothing compared to our new problem.
When our awesome receptionist
Christine got into the office the morning after the update she got an odd phone call. It was a little girl (or boy, she couldn't tell from the prepubescent voice) who giggled, asked for Jenny and hung up.
Numerous similar phone calls have occurred since.

This morning I went running, hopped in the shower, and ran to the conference, hair still wet, because I didn't want to miss the Generation Google panel. I was excited to hear more about Harrison Gevirtz, a sixteen year old affiliate marketer, and Chloe Spencer, Stephan Spencer's daughter and a blogger who makes a good chunk of dough from AdSense earnings. Joining them were Evan Fishkin and Andrew Sutherland, with Danny at the podium. (Fun fact: Andrew wrote the democracy plugin for Wordpress, which currently ranks #7 in Google for the word "democracy." Can you say wow?)
Much to my surprise, the session didn't go how I thought it would. I was expecting that we'd hear more about how Harrison, Chloe, and Andrew got their start as marketers, get a general idea of the amount of work they put into their projects and jobs, and what got them interested in the field in the first place. Rather, instead of enlightening the audience about these young, savvy, and budding web professionals, we listened to them answer general questions about their search habits and opinions about the web in general.

search engine news Some people make the mistake of equating SEO simply with tweaking a website’s code and contents in order to rank well with search engines. While this is where the bulk of the work goes to a good SEO knows that there are plenty of other factors that affect their work as an SEO. One of the factors often overlooked by people is web hosting.
Web hosting is NOT part of the work of an SEO. However, the hosting of a website can affect its ranking with search engines aversely IF it just so happens that you use a hosting site that has been identified by search engines as spammers. Of course, the hosting site itself would not be the spammer but websites hosted by them have been or presently be full of spam. This will result in a page rank for you even before your start SEO making your SEO efforts futile.

In general, our videogame protagonists need a set context for their lives before being thrust into action and adventure. Mario can’t just be a dude with a goomba-stomping fetish; he has to be a plumber. Marcus Fenix can’t just be some chainsaw-wielding jerk; he needs to be an ex-soldier. For better or for worse, most game characters need some sort of backstory, often encapsulated in the character’s profession.

search engine news Yesterday I was trying to convince someone of creating his/her personal SEO/SMM blog, but couldn’t really convince that person. This is the reason why I decided to create a list of reasons to have a SEO/SMM blog, lets see if now that person reads this list and gets convinced:
- Socialize: after blogging for some time you inevitably get to know other SEOs/SMMs that also have a blog, this all starts when they leave a comment on your blog on when you leave one on theirs.
- Personal Branding: if what you write is good content, and people start to love your content and your blog, you might even get to be known in the SEO/SMM world.
- Share your knowledge: it is nice to write about what you know (or think you know) and share it with lots of persons over the world at the same time.
- Increase your knowledge: as you would have to write about SEO, you would probably get to read more seo blogs to find inspiration and to see that you are not writing something that was already written.
- Services: if you offer SEO/SMM services, with your blog you can show more people that you know what you are speaking about and more companies will be happy to hire your services.
- Money: with a blog you can aswell monetize it by selling advertising, by using Adsense or just by using any affiliate program you find on the web.
- Get a new Job: if you are looking for a new job, showing your knowledge in your blog will help other companies see that you know your stuff and you would get more chances of getting hired by that company.

search engine news Some of the most effective SEOs buy and sell links, buy and sell websites, use successful positions to promote other similar positions, expand out to other high profit market positions, and do whatever they see fit to profit. It is not our job to create the algorithms, we just satisfy the criteria to rank. Others start every project from scratch, hoping that one day the market will be fair and shine a light on them. One day...

Regular evaluation and maintenance of your website’s Google Indexing or “Google Garden” can be an easily overlooked practice by webmasters and SEO’s alike. It is typically not a top priority for optimization if there are other pressing issues at hand, and it also may be deemed that “the more pages you
have indexed in Google, the more search traffic you may receive.”
However, robust websites with a wide array of files, frame technology usage, and secure pages that get regularly crawled and indexed by Google can easily succumb to a growth in “weed-like” indexing results. These weeds in the garden typically offer little to no value to your search audience, and can suck away the nutrients from growing your main crop, which is your website’s core pages – the ones you really want your search audience to feed on!
